VERBUND began preparations for autumn maintenance at the Freudenau Danube power plant in Vienna on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. The company said in a VERBUND press release that the left-hand lock is scheduled for maintenance this year.
The preparation work is being carried out by a three-person diving team. The divers are cleaning the riverbed in front of the lock gates and the areas where stoplogs will be positioned, allowing the lock chamber to be drained for the next phase of work.
Work precedes winter servicing
VERBUND said the divers operate at depths of up to 13 metres and remove sand, gravel and timber from the bed of the Danube. A diving robot previously inspected the lock rail and measured a ten-centimetre layer of sludge that must be removed.
Once the upstream and downstream stoplogs are installed, routine maintenance can begin during the winter months. The company said both navigation locks at the Freudenau run-of-river power plant are serviced every nine years.
The operating update gives investors a concrete view of the maintenance requirements behind VERBUND's hydropower network. It does not by itself establish a direct share-price reaction.
The real-time quote of Verbund stock was 69.85 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 10:27 a.m. Berlin time on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
