- Third-quarter sales increased as both major business segments delivered growth.
- Management lifted its 2026 sales, adjusted earnings and operating cash flow ranges.
- Margin expansion and stronger demand support the company outlook, while investors will watch execution against the higher targets.
W.W. Grainger reported stronger third-quarter results on November 4, 2026, and raised its full-year outlook, according to the company's investor release. The industrial distributor said third-quarter sales increased 11.3% year over year to 5.181 billion US dollars.
Growth reached both operating segments
High-Touch Solutions - N.A. sales rose 13.8% from the prior-year quarter. Endless Assortment sales increased 11.9%, while daily organic constant-currency sales advanced 19.3%, supported by MonotaRO and Zoro.
Adjusted diluted earnings per share rose 22.8% to 12.54 US dollars. Adjusted operating earnings increased 18.2% to 836 million US dollars, and adjusted operating margin widened to 16.1% from 15.2% a year earlier. Reported operating margin reached 16.0%, compared with 11.0% in the prior-year quarter.
Grainger said the adjusted comparison excludes transaction costs linked to its acquisition of technology assets in the current quarter. The prior-year adjusted figure excluded losses tied to the exit from the United Kingdom, including the sale of the Cromwell business and the closure of Zoro U.K. The company therefore presents the adjusted figures as a view of ongoing performance rather than a substitute for reported results.
Higher targets raise execution demands
Grainger now expects 2026 net sales of 19.8 billion to 20.0 billion US dollars, compared with its previous range of 19.4 billion to 19.7 billion US dollars. The updated outlook calls for daily organic constant-currency sales growth of 13.0% to 14.5%, up from 11.5% to 13.0%.
The company raised its adjusted diluted earnings outlook to 47.00 to 48.00 US dollars per share from 45.50 to 47.25 US dollars. Its operating cash flow target increased to 2.35 billion to 2.45 billion US dollars from 2.25 billion to 2.40 billion US dollars, while the adjusted operating margin range moved to 16.0% to 16.2% from 15.8% to 16.2%.
Chief Executive D.G. Macpherson attributed the quarter to consistent execution and an improving demand environment. He said customers continued to turn to Grainger for products and solutions, with both major segments delivering growth. For investors, the higher targets improve the earnings setup but also leave less room for weaker demand, margin pressure or execution setbacks.
