- Customer traffic, comparable sales and margin protection are the next signals for investors.
Wesfarmers stock faces a tougher retail backdrop after the Reserve Bank of Australia raised its cash rate target on Tuesday, November 3. The stock traded at 49.80 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 15:32:32 CET on Friday, November 6, 2026.
The latest quote is 1.78 percent below the 50.70 euros reported at 09:15 CET on November 5. This change since the previous report is separate from the daily comparison with an Xetra closing price.
Higher rates challenge demand
The Reserve Bank of Australia statement said the Board increased the cash rate target by 25 basis points to 4.85 percent. Six members supported the move, while three voted to keep the rate at 4.60 percent.
The central bank said inflation was expected to remain elevated through much of 2027. It also said higher interest rates and falling housing prices and turnover were expected to weigh on household consumption.
Retail portfolio remains in focus
Wesfarmers operates Bunnings, Kmart, Target and Officeworks alongside health, beauty and wellness businesses and industrial and resources operations. That diversification provides several earnings channels, but its major retail brands remain exposed to household budgets and housing activity.
The next signals for investors are trading updates covering customer traffic, comparable sales and margin protection. Bunnings is especially important because home-improvement demand can be affected by housing turnover, while general merchandise demand may weaken if higher repayments reduce discretionary spending.
Management's acquisition stance is another factor to watch. Wesfarmers has previously described potential deals across retail, lithium and chemicals as selective and disciplined, making execution and capital allocation relevant alongside near-term retail momentum.
