AEX closes 0.3 percent higher as Shell gains on oil surge

AEX closed at 1,121 points in Amsterdam on October 8, 2026, gaining 0.3 percent as Shell rallied with oil prices. Investing.com reported that the index finished higher after gains in oil and gas, consumer goods and technology stocks.
IEX said Shell rose 3.5 percent and led the AEX as higher oil prices supported the energy stock. UBS also raised its estimate for Shell's third-quarter net income by 3.0 percent to USD 10.2 billion after the company's preliminary update pointed to stronger product trading and higher volumes.
Shell led while banks lagged
BE Semiconductor Industries gained 2.4 percent and Universal Music Group rose 2.3 percent. ING fell 2.7 percent, ArcelorMittal lost 2.5 percent and DSM Firmenich declined 2.3 percent. Advancing stocks were outnumbered by decliners, 43 to 55, with six unchanged, according to Investing.com.
Brent crude rose 5.2 percent to USD 105.44 a barrel, while AEX volatility was unchanged at 21.09. The euro traded at USD 1.1197 near the Amsterdam close, IEX reported.
What comes next
Friday, October 9, brings Dutch producer confidence and industrial production data at 6:30 a.m. CET. The University of Michigan consumer sentiment preliminary reading is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. CET, while Delta Air Lines is due to release third-quarter results at 1:00 p.m. CET, according to De Koersen.
