- Strabag and Wienerberger led the ATX, while OMV and AT&S declined.
The ATX closed Monday, November 2, 2026, at 6,430.27 points, up 0.16% from the previous session. The result marked a modest start to the new trading week after the Austrian benchmark had fallen 0.86% on Friday. The Vienna Stock Exchange reported the latest ATX level at 17:50:01 Berlin time, after the regular Vienna session, with the previous closing level at 6,420.03 points.
Oil decline supports European markets
According to Deutsche Börse's dpa-AFX report, a noticeable decline in oil prices supported European markets. The move followed reports about diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran, which eased concerns about an imminent resumption of US military action. The report did not present the oil-market move as a guarantee of a lasting improvement in risk appetite: gains across European markets remained restrained.
For investors in Austrian equities, lower energy prices had divergent effects within the ATX. OMV fell 3.0%, making it the weakest named constituent in the dpa-AFX account, as energy stocks across Europe came under pressure alongside crude prices. The energy-sector move therefore offset gains elsewhere in the index rather than lifting all major ATX components equally.
Construction shares lead the index
Construction-related stocks were among the strongest performers. Strabag rose 4.7% and Wienerberger gained 3.1%, according to the same market report. AT&S, by contrast, extended its recent decline and lost 2.8% after a sharp fall in the previous session amid a broader international correction in semiconductor shares. The contrasting performance of construction and energy stocks helps explain why the ATX finished only marginally higher despite the more supportive oil-price backdrop.
Political and earnings risks remain
Market attention now turns to events outside Vienna. Apple was scheduled to publish quarterly results after the US market close on Monday, while the US midterm elections were due on Tuesday. Both events could influence global risk appetite and the technology and energy sectors that also affect European benchmarks. The ATX's small daily gain therefore represents a limited recovery, not evidence that uncertainty has been resolved.
