The network milestone was reported by TokenPost, which said the seven-day average had moved above 1,000 exahashes per second. Hashrate measures the computing power used to process and secure Bitcoin transactions. A higher figure indicates more computing power participating in the proof-of-work network, but it does not identify which operators supplied it.
Bitcoin difficulty rose 5.92 percent at block 971,712
TokenPost reported that Bitcoin mining difficulty increased 5.92 percent to about 140.58 trillion at block 971,712 on October 16, 2026, at 12:37 UTC. Difficulty is recalculated every 2,016 blocks to keep the average block interval near 10 minutes. The adjustment followed the latest 2,016-block interval and sets the computational threshold for miners in the next interval.
ETF flows reversed during October
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded 137.9 million USD in net outflows on October 23, 2026, according to Farside Investors. BlackRock's IBIT recorded 110.3 million USD in outflows, Fidelity's FBTC recorded 31.8 million USD in outflows, and Morgan Stanley's MSBT recorded 4.2 million USD in inflows. The figure was provisional because one fund entry had not been reported.
The flow data show separate fund creations and redemptions rather than transfers from the Bitcoin network. A CryptoSlate report citing Glassnode put the average acquisition price of U.S. spot ETF holdings at 81,500 USD using data through October 19, 2026. The same report placed the True Market Mean near 77,600 USD if Bitcoin closes below 80,000 USD. Those are analytical estimates, not quoted Bitcoin prices.
