BSE Sensex closed at 72,472 points on Friday, October 9, gaining 1.2 percent as Tata Consultancy Services and other information technology stocks led a rebound after two sessions of heavy selling. Times Now said the index rose 879 points, while the session high reached 72,669 points, according to Rediff.
TCS leads the rebound
Tata Consultancy Services gained 4.2 percent after reporting a 15 percent year-over-year increase in September-quarter net profit to INR 13,884 crore. ITC rose 4.8 percent, while Adani Ports, Infosys, HCL Tech, Larsen & Toubro and HDFC Bank were also among the gainers, Rediff reported. Economic Times reported that information technology stocks led the sector advance.
Oil eases as weekly losses end
Brent crude fell 1.3 percent to USD 102.9 per barrel, helping ease pressure on Indian equities after oil prices had contributed to Thursday's selloff. The Sensex gained 0.8 percent for the week and ended an eight-week losing streak, according to Morningstar.
