BUX closes 3.3 percent higher as OTP rebounds on buyback approval

The BUX closed at 141,671 points on October 9, 2026, up 3.3 percent, as OTP Bank rebounded after approval for a new HUF 50 billion share-buyback program. Privatbankar reported that the index added 4,505.21 points and turnover reached HUF 41.7 billion.
OTP was the strongest major mover, gaining 6.4 percent to HUF 40,300 after the buyback approval. The bank accounted for HUF 37.8 billion of turnover, according to Privatbankar.
Blue chips advance across the index
MOL rose 1.1 percent to HUF 5,055, Richter gained 1.2 percent to HUF 12,350, and Magyar Telekom advanced 1.3 percent to HUF 2,562. All four major blue chips ended higher. Portfolio said the recovery followed Thursday's sharp decline in OTP and a broadly positive European session.
European markets also posted gains during the day, while the main US indexes opened higher. The BUX rebound came as the Budapest market reversed part of the previous session's 2.9 percent decline.

The next Budapest trading session is scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026. Investors will also have a dated corporate event ahead: 4iG is scheduled to hold an extraordinary meeting on October 30, 2026, with proposed votes on supervisory and board appointments, Portfolio reported.
