The BUX advanced in European midday trading on Wednesday, November 4, as the Budapest market followed a broader recovery across Europe. The index stood at 148,851.32 points at 12:32 p.m. Berlin time, up 1.90 percent, or 2,775.88 points, from Tuesday's close of 146,075.44 points.
Privatbankar reported the midday level and said the index was up 1.90 percent. Magyar Telekom was down 1.02 percent at 2,900 forints, and Richter was up 0.15 percent at 13,020 forints.
OTP leads the Budapest advance
Portfolio reported at 12:21 p.m. that the BUX was trading around 2 percent higher, with OTP up about 4 percent and at more than a one-month high. The report said MOL was up 1.4 percent, while Richter was little changed and Magyar Telekom was down 0.9 percent.
The Budapest Stock Exchange defines the BUX as its official blue-chip share index. It is calculated continuously in Hungarian forints using a free-float-adjusted market-capitalisation weighting. The exchange's index profile identifies the BUX as a total-return index covering up to 25 shares.
European markets recover after election shock
Market coverage described a two-stage reaction to the US midterm election results. Asian markets initially came under pressure amid concerns about tighter technology regulation and a possible slowdown in data-centre investment, while European equities later accelerated higher. US equity futures also recovered from their early losses during the European morning, helping to improve the broader market tone.
The midday move does not represent a closing level. Trading in Budapest was still under way, so the BUX could change before the session ends. Investors were also awaiting US economic data later in the day, including the ADP employment report, the trade balance and the ISM services survey, according to Portfolio's market coverage.
