Losses were led by financial, utility and industrial shares. Societe Generale fell 5.01 percent, Legrand lost 4.89 percent and ArcelorMittal declined 4.57 percent.
Declining stocks outnumbered advancing shares 306 to 148, with 92 unchanged. The CAC 40 volatility index ended unchanged at 18.96, a new 52-week high, while EUR/USD fell 0.63 percent to 1.12, according to Investing.com.
Schneider Electric weighs on sentiment
Schneider Electric remained under pressure after its agreement to acquire PTC for approximately 22 billion euros. The deal is planned as an all-cash transaction financed through debt and a capital increase, and JPMorgan downgraded the stock to neutral, as Ideal-investisseur.fr reported.
On October 8, Germany's trade balance is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. CEST, followed by US weekly jobless claims at 2:30 p.m. CEST, according to Bourse Direct.
