Euro Stoxx 50 closed at 6,127 points on October 9, 2026, down 0.9 percent, as banks and elevated oil prices weighed on the index. Saxo put the closing level at 6,126.74 points and cited a deepening bank selloff, French fiscal concerns and high oil prices as the main pressures.
Telecom weakness offsets oil relief
Oil prices eased as US President Donald Trump said Washington would not attack Iran before the November midterm elections, while eurozone bond yields pulled back from multi-year highs. Reuters said the retreat in oil and yields supported most European sectors.
Telecom stocks moved sharply lower. Deutsche Telekom fell 7.0 percent after SpaceX agreed to acquire a nationwide low-band spectrum portfolio, raising concerns about stronger competition for established wireless operators, Reuters reported. The STOXX Europe 600 Telecommunications index fell 3.3 percent in the same session.
