- HSBC fell 5.4 percent after third-quarter revenue missed the USD19 billion estimate.
- Antofagasta led gainers at 4.3 percent, while HSBC was the biggest loser at 5.4 percent.
- The UK Autumn Budget is due Wednesday, October 28, at 12:30 p.m. London time.
The FTSE 100 closed down 80.79 points, or 0.8 percent, at 10,686.54 points on October 27. HSBC's revenue miss and caution before Wednesday's UK Budget weighed on the benchmark, Alliance News reported.
HSBC was the biggest drag, falling 5.4 percent after third-quarter revenue reached USD18.62 billion against a USD18.93 billion consensus estimate. Reckitt Benckiser also fell 5.3 percent after cutting its annual growth guidance, Reuters said.
Why did the FTSE 100 fall on Tuesday?
Financial and consumer stocks led the decline after the two earnings updates. HSBC reported higher profit but missed revenue expectations, while Reckitt cited weaker demand and manufacturing constraints.
Lower oil prices also pressured energy shares. Shell fell 1.8 percent and BP dropped 2.9 percent, according to AJ Bell.
