- The index closed Thursday at 18,857.6 points, down 0.14%.
- Corporate earnings, Spanish and eurozone economic data, and technology-sector weakness set the tone for Friday.
- The session was still underway around midday, so this is a pre-close market outlook rather than a closing report.
The IBEX 35 entered the final trading session of October after closing Thursday at 18,857.6 points, a decline of 0.14%. The Spanish benchmark had lagged other major European markets as investors assessed a heavy earnings schedule, the European Central Bank's decision to leave interest rates unchanged and renewed geopolitical concerns.
Capital reported the Thursday close and said the ECB had kept its policy rate at 2.5%. The report also identified pressure on several large index constituents, including BBVA, CaixaBank, Unicaja and Inditex, while Ferrovial, Indra, Acciona Energia, Repsol and Cellnex were among the strongest performers.
Earnings remain central to the session
Friday's domestic earnings flow included CaixaBank and Unicaja. CaixaBank reported a net profit of 4.962 billion euros for the first nine months of 2026, up 12.9% year over year, while Unicaja reported attributable net profit of 543 million euros, an increase of 8.1%. Acerinox reported net profit of 162 million euros for the same period, compared with 7 million euros a year earlier. Tubacex, by contrast, reported nine-month sales of 475.6 million euros and an attributable net loss of 5.5 million euros.
These company figures are being assessed against a weaker tone in parts of the technology sector. Overnight results from major United States technology companies have added to investor concerns about the cost and prospective returns of artificial-intelligence investment, according to the opening-market account carried by EFE and published by Infobae.
Macro data adds to market focus
The day's agenda also includes first estimates of third-quarter gross domestic product for Spain and the eurozone, as well as October inflation figures. Europe Press reported that Spain's economy grew 0.6% in the third quarter and that consumer-price inflation held at 4.9% year over year in October. The Bank of Japan separately left its benchmark rate at 1.25%.
At the time of the mid-session report, the Madrid market had not yet completed Friday's trading. The next decisive reference for investors will therefore be the eventual session close, with the index's ability to regain 18,800 points competing with earnings reactions and the broader technology-led risk tone.
