The IBEX 35 closed Friday's session at 18,652.90 points, a decline of 1.09% for the day, according to Europa Press. The Spanish benchmark, which is managed by BME and tracks 35 of the most liquid stocks listed in Spain, ended the week 1.77% lower and posted its weakest monthly close since March.

Banking and technology drive losses

The monthly decline reached 3.90% as investors reduced exposure to technology shares, reacted to higher sovereign-bond yields and assessed recent meetings by the European Central Bank and the Federal Reserve. The financial sector was a notable source of weakness because of the IBEX 35's high weighting in banks. Analysts cited by Europa Press said that higher interest rates can support lending income but may also raise financing costs, weaken credit demand and increase the risk of defaults.

Friday's trading was also shaped by a full schedule of corporate results. CaixaBank reported net income of 4.962 billion euros for the first nine months of 2026, up 12.9% from the same period a year earlier. Unicaja reported attributable net income of 543 million euros, an increase of 8.1%. Acerinox reported net income of 162 million euros, compared with 7 million euros a year earlier, but its shares still posted the session's largest decline.

Sharp divergence among leading stocks

Repsol was the strongest performer on Friday, rising 4.49%, followed by Grifols at 2.81%, Puig at 1.90%, Rovi at 1.62% and Telefónica at 1.44%. Acerinox fell 5.47%, while Solaria declined 5.10%. Banco Santander lost 3.75%, BBVA fell 3.70% and Indra dropped 2.32%. The contrast suggests that stronger earnings alone did not guarantee a positive market response as investors focused on sector positioning and the broader risk backdrop.

Other European markets also ended the week lower: the CAC 40 fell 0.01%, the DAX declined 0.85%, the FTSE MIB lost 1% and the Euro Stoxx 50 dropped 1.22%. At the close of European trading, the S&P 500 was down 1.61% and the Nasdaq was lower by 2.66%, with Intel under pressure. Brent crude stood at 117.60 US dollars per barrel, while Spain's 10-year government-bond yield was 3.936%.
