- The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.8% to 25,372 at Tuesday's closing bell.
- AI-linked semiconductor stocks supported the index as investors looked beyond recent technology-sector losses.
- Midterm-election uncertainty, higher Treasury yields and forthcoming AMD results remained key market considerations.
The Nasdaq Composite recovered from its recent technology-led sell-off on Tuesday, November 3, closing 0.8% higher at 25,372. The session took place as US voters went to the polls for the midterm elections and investors reassessed the outlook for artificial-intelligence-related shares.
Chip stocks support the rebound
According to Kiplinger, the Nasdaq Composite ended the session at 25,372, while semiconductor-related shares helped lead the recovery. Nvidia rose 2.3%, Microsoft gained 2.7% and the VanEck Semiconductor ETF advanced 2.0%, according to the same report. AMD and Super Micro Computer were also among the semiconductor stocks posting gains ahead of their results after the closing bell.
The advance followed a difficult stretch for technology shares. The index had fallen sharply in the previous session as investors questioned the scale and profitability of corporate spending on artificial intelligence. Tuesday's move therefore marked a recovery, but not a resolution of the broader valuation debate.
Rates and election risk remain relevant
Kiplinger reported that Treasury yields moved higher across maturities during Tuesday's trading. The 10-year yield rose 6.4 basis points to 4.958%, while the two-year yield increased 0.4 basis points to 4.623%. Higher yields can influence the valuation of growth stocks because they raise the discount rate applied to expected future earnings, although the day's index performance reflected several factors.
Political uncertainty also remained part of the market backdrop as investors followed the US midterm elections. The election outcome may affect expectations for policy, regulation and investment in areas such as artificial-intelligence infrastructure. However, the index's daily rise alone does not establish a causal relationship with the vote.
Investors await further earnings signals
Apple declined 1.9% on concerns about slower growth and contracting margins, while Palantir fell 1.7% after its quarterly results, according to Kiplinger. Those moves were offset at index level by strength in chip and other AI-linked names. AMD and Super Micro Computer were scheduled to report after the close, leaving their guidance and commentary on AI demand as potential reference points for the next technology-market session.
For investors, Tuesday's rebound shows that leadership within the technology complex remains uneven. The Nasdaq Composite stock-market benchmark ended higher, but the durability of the recovery will depend on earnings evidence, spending returns and interest-rate expectations.
