Issuance proposal targets 1.6 percent
TokenPost reported on October 21, 2026, that the House of Stake is voting on HSP-029, a proposal to lower NEAR's annual issuance ceiling from 2.5 percent to 1.6 percent over 24 months. The proposal keeps the existing allocation of 90 percent of new issuance for staking participants and 10 percent for the treasury.
The official NEAR governance discussion says the change would be phased in every epoch over 24 months. A House of Stake vote alone would not activate the new parameter; validators would also need to adopt a protocol upgrade.
Staking held at 46 percent in Q3
TokenPost reported on October 22, 2026, that NEAR averaged 596 million staked tokens in the third quarter, equal to 46 percent of an estimated 1.304 billion token supply. The report said gross annualized staking yield eased to 4.87 percent from 4.88 percent in the second quarter, while the average amount staked and its share of supply remained unchanged.
