NEAR Protocol price faces tokenomics test after issuance vote

- NEAR's House of Stake approved a proposal to lower the maximum annual issuance rate from 2.5% to 1.6% over 24 months.
- The vote does not immediately change token issuance because Security Council review, a grace period and validator adoption are still required.
- The planned supply reduction could reduce dilution, but modeled staking returns would also decline if participation remains unchanged.
The NEAR Protocol price is in focus after the network's House of Stake approved proposal HSP-029 on November 2, 2026. The proposal would reduce the maximum annual issuance rate from 2.5% to 1.6% over 24 months. The vote is a tokenomics decision, not an immediate supply change: several implementation steps remain.
According to BTC-ECHO, the proposal received 99.97% support. Its modeled impact is a reduction of 11.8 million NEAR issued over the first two years and 66.1 million over six years, assuming the proposed schedule is implemented.
Approval is not implementation
The governance vote alone does not activate the new issuance rate. As reported by Yahoo Finance, the House of Stake Security Council must first review the result. A roughly 90-day grace period follows, and validators must then adopt a protocol upgrade before the change becomes binding. The proposal retains the existing allocation of newly issued tokens, with 90% going to staking participants and 10% to the treasury.
Lower dilution, lower staking yield
The reform has two opposing effects for token holders. A lower issuance ceiling would slow the creation of new NEAR and could reduce dilution over time. At the same time, the proposal's modeling puts gross staking yield at about 3.37% at the 1.6% target, compared with about 5.27% at the current 2.5% ceiling, assuming the staking ratio remains unchanged. That may affect the incentives for stakers and validators, even though the supply schedule would become more restrictive.
The Investing.com NEAR Protocol market page displayed a price of USD 3.7131 when read for this report, alongside a displayed market capitalization of USD 4.88 billion and circulating supply of 1.31 billion NEAR. Those figures are a market snapshot, not a verified UTC daily close for November 6, and they do not establish a causal link between the governance decision and any price movement.
For investors, the key issue is therefore execution rather than the vote headline alone. The NEAR Protocol price may remain sensitive to expectations about future dilution, staking economics and validator participation until the review, grace period and technical upgrade are complete.
