NEAR Protocol price meets a live tokenomics vote

NEAR Protocol price developments are being weighed against a governance proposal to reduce future token issuance. The vote could lower dilution, but implementation would require a separate validator upgrade.

NEAR tokenomics vote enters final phase

  • NEAR governance proposal HSP-029 would lower the annual issuance cap from 2.5 percent to 1.6 percent over 24 months.
  • The vote is scheduled to close on November 2, but validators must still adopt a separate protocol upgrade before the change takes effect.
  • Investing.com listed NEAR at 4.6034 USD on October 29, while recent reporting highlighted continued Intents activity and quantum-security upgrades.

NEAR Protocol price developments are now competing with a more structural question: whether the network will reduce future token issuance. House of Stake proposal HSP-029 would lower the annual issuance cap from 2.5 percent to 1.6 percent over 24 months, but the measure has not yet changed the protocol.

Issuance vote remains open

According to TokenPost, the vote is scheduled to close on November 2 at 16:48 UTC. Approval would not by itself alter issuance. The proposal requires a subsequent protocol upgrade that must be adopted by network validators.

The proposed reduction would be phased in after a 90-day grace period. The allocation of new issuance would remain unchanged, with 90 percent going to staking participants and 10 percent to the treasury. For holders, the potential benefit is slower supply growth; for stakers and validators, the trade-off is a smaller future reward pool.

Supply and staking trade-offs

CryptoSlate reported that NEAR supply increased by 2,694,173.6002242 tokens between September 22 and October 22, based on the cited on-chain snapshots. It also noted that NEAR remained inflationary during that period. The proposed cap reduction would therefore slow future issuance rather than immediately make the token deflationary.

CryptoSlate also stressed that buybacks and staking do not automatically reduce total supply. Acquired tokens can remain in circulation, so investors should distinguish between ownership concentration, liquid supply and permanent token destruction.

Price context and network activity

The Investing.com NEAR Protocol page listed the token at 4.6034 USD on October 29 and showed a 52-week range of 0.8482 to 5.9725 USD. The quoted page also showed circulating supply of 1.31 billion NEAR and a market capitalization of 5.98 billion USD. These figures provide market context, but they do not establish a causal link between the governance proposal and the token price.

Recent coverage by Yahoo Finance said NEAR Intents had surpassed 33.29 billion USD in cumulative decentralized-exchange volume as of its October 10 report. The same report described accounts as able to use ML-DSA quantum-resistant signatures and said a related key-hiding change was running on testnet. Those developments support the network's technology narrative, while the issuance vote remains the nearer-term tokenomics catalyst.

For investors, the key checkpoints are the November 2 vote, any validator approval and the timing of the proposed implementation. Until those steps occur, the 1.6 percent cap remains a proposal rather than an active change to NEAR economics. Further coverage is available on the NEAR Protocol topic page.
