NEAR Protocol price weighs issuance vote against delayed rollout

The NEAR Protocol price is being assessed after governance approved a phased reduction in maximum token issuance. The change could reduce future dilution, but it is not yet binding and may lower staking yields.

Issuance Reform Still Awaits Implementation

  • NEAR's House of Stake approved a plan to reduce the maximum annual issuance rate from 2.5% to 1.6% over 24 months.
  • The change still requires Security Council review, a grace period and validator adoption through a protocol upgrade.
  • Investing.com showed NEAR at 3.7131 USD when read on November 7, with a market capitalization of 4.88 billion USD.

The NEAR Protocol price remains in focus after the network's House of Stake approved a plan to reduce the maximum annual issuance rate from 2.5% to 1.6%. The vote was announced on November 2, while the implementation process remains incomplete.

When read on November 7, Investing.com's NEAR/USD page showed a price of 3.7131 USD. The same page listed a market capitalization of 4.88 billion USD, 24-hour volume of 536.80 million USD, a rank of 19 and circulating supply of 1.31 billion NEAR. The page did not provide a dated UTC closing comparison, so no daily percentage change is assigned here.

Vote Changes the Long-Term Supply Path

Proposal HSP-029 would phase the issuance ceiling down over 24 months rather than apply an immediate cut. The existing distribution would remain unchanged: 90% of newly issued NEAR would go to staking participants and 10% to the protocol treasury. According to Unchained, the proposal was reported on November 3 and still required further governance and technical steps.

Once fully active, the schedule is designed to reduce new issuance by an estimated 11.8 million NEAR over two years and 66.1 million over six years compared with the existing ceiling. The proposal's modeling also projects gross staking yield falling from about 5.27% to about 3.37% at the target rate, assuming staking participation remains unchanged. That creates a trade-off for investors: slower supply growth could reduce dilution, while lower staking rewards may reduce the income incentive for some holders and validators.

Implementation Remains the Key Risk

The governance vote alone does not activate the 1.6% ceiling. Security Council review and ratification must come first, followed by a grace period of roughly 90 days. Validators then need to adopt a protocol upgrade before the change becomes binding. The transition therefore separates the governance decision from its economic effect.

The NEAR Protocol price should consequently be viewed against both the prospective supply improvement and the delay before it takes effect. The vote is a notable tokenomics development, but it does not by itself establish a near-term price catalyst. NEAR's project website describes the House of Stake as the system responsible for coordinating protocol upgrades, economic parameters and treasury decisions. Investors should distinguish that governance progress from completed implementation.
