NEAR Protocol price weighs issuance vote as rollout remains pending

The NEAR Protocol price is being assessed after governance approved a gradual reduction in maximum token issuance. The reform could reduce dilution, but it is not yet binding and would lower modeled staking yields.

NEAR Tokenomics Enter a Transition

  • NEAR's House of Stake approved HSP-029, which would lower the maximum annual issuance rate from 2.5% to 1.6% over 24 months.
  • The change still requires Security Council review, a 90-day grace period and validator adoption of a protocol upgrade.
  • Investing.com displayed NEAR at 3.7131 USD on November 8, with a market capitalization of 4.88 billion USD.

The NEAR Protocol price is being assessed against a governance change that could alter the token's long-term supply path. NEAR's House of Stake approved proposal HSP-029 on November 2, according to The Block. The proposal would reduce the network's maximum annual issuance rate from 2.5% to 1.6% over 24 months.

What HSP-029 Changes

The reform does not change the basic distribution of newly issued tokens: 90% would continue to go to staking participants and 10% to the protocol treasury. If implemented, the ceiling would decline each epoch by roughly 3.75 basis points per month until reaching the 1.6% target in the 24th month.

The proposal estimates that the gradual reduction would prevent roughly 11.8 million NEAR from being issued over two years and 66.1 million over six years compared with the existing ceiling. The Block reports that the modeled supply would be 4.36% lower than under the current path. These are projections, not realized supply reductions.

Implementation Is Not Immediate

Approval by the House of Stake alone does not activate the new schedule. The Security Council must review the result before ratification. A 90-day grace period would then apply, and validators would still need to adopt the required protocol upgrade before the change becomes binding.

That sequence matters for investors because the near-term token economics remain unchanged until the technical steps are completed. The proposal also contains a trade-off for stakers: assuming the staking participation rate used in the model remains unchanged, gross staking yield is projected to decline from 5.268% to 3.372% as the lower issuance rate is reached.

Price and Investor Context

At the November 8 retrieval, the Investing.com NEAR/USD page displayed 3.7131 USD, a 24-hour trading volume of 536.80 million USD, a market capitalization of 4.88 billion USD, a rank of 19 and 1.31 billion NEAR in circulation. Its displayed 52-week range was 0.8482 to 5.9725 USD.

The NEAR Protocol price therefore remains exposed to two separate considerations: the potential long-term benefit of slower supply growth and the lower token rewards that could affect staking economics. The governance vote establishes a direction, but the timing and market impact depend on the remaining approval and implementation steps.
