S&P/ ASX 200 closes 0.09 percent lower as banks, miners drag

Banks and miners weigh on the index
Financials were the weakest sector, falling 0.59 percent, while materials declined 0.20 percent. Healthcare gained 1.09 percent and real estate rose 0.81 percent, as CommBank reports.
Commonwealth Bank fell 1.32 percent and Westpac Banking Corporation lost 1.21 percent. Fortescue declined 2.44 percent, while CSL gained 1.85 percent. The weakness in major banks and miners persisted despite record highs on Wall Street in the previous session, according to PerthNow.
Gold and uranium stocks outperform
Gold producers moved higher as bullion strengthened in Asian trading. Northern Star Resources gained 3.18 percent, while Telix Pharmaceuticals rose 3.24 percent and Domino's Pizza Enterprises added 4.22 percent. Sims Limited was the weakest S&P/ASX 200 constituent listed by Investing.com, falling 5.19 percent.
Uranium stocks also advanced after Google signed a long-term power agreement involving nuclear generation. Deep Yellow gained 4.61 percent, while the broader health and uranium strength helped offset pressure from financials and materials, according to 7NEWS.

The next S&P/ASX 200 session is scheduled for Thursday, October 8. Mainland Chinese stocks are also due to resume trading after the Golden Week holiday, with continuous trading restarting at 9:30 a.m. China time, according to EBC Financial Group.
