SMI gains 0.90 percent at midday as oil prices ease

Drivers of the day
European equities received support from lower energy prices. Brent crude traded below USD 100 per barrel after reports that Yemeni government forces had retaken the city of Mokha from Houthi rebels, improving expectations for shipping conditions around Bab el-Mandeb. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield fell 4 basis points to 5.27 percent, while the euro recovered to USD 1.1243, finanzen.ch reported.
The move followed a 0.31 percent gain for the SMI on October 5, when it closed at 13,703.53 points. International support also came from Monday's gains on Wall Street and Tuesday's advances in Japan and Hong Kong, while elevated bond yields limited gains in parts of Asia, according to LGT.
Single stocks
Lonza led the SMI gainers with a 2.78 percent increase, followed by Sika at 2.51 percent and Sandoz at 1.77 percent. Givaudan gained 1.72 percent and Amrize rose 1.53 percent, according to finanzen.ch.
Events ahead
U.S. weekly ADP employment data is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. CEST, followed by the U.S. trade balance at 2:30 p.m. CEST. Federal Reserve officials John Williams and Michelle Bowman are scheduled to speak at 3:05 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. CEST, respectively. A U.S. three-year Treasury auction is due at 7:00 p.m. CEST, according to XTB.
