Technology stocks pause near 50,000 points
Focus Taiwan reported that large-cap technology stocks took a pause after the index approached the round-number level. The upcoming National Day holiday also reduced investors' willingness to add positions, dealers told the news agency.
Trading value totaled TWD 925.99 billion. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing closed unchanged at TWD 2,585.00, while MediaTek fell 1.73 percent to TWD 4,835.00 and ASE Technology Holding declined 1.61 percent to TWD 732.00. Hon Hai Precision Industry dropped 1.56 percent, and Delta Electronics lost 2.93 percent, according to Focus Taiwan.
Rotation beyond the largest technology stocks
Buying shifted toward selected passive-component and old-economy shares. Yageo gained 3.52 percent, Walsin Technology rose 10 percent, Formosa Plastics jumped 10 percent, and Nan Ya Plastics advanced 7.17 percent. The financial sector rose 1.02 percent, while foreign institutional investors sold a net TWD 13.04 billion on the main board, Focus Taiwan reported.
Next session and holiday schedule
The next Taiwan session is scheduled for October 8. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing is scheduled to announce its September sales figures that day, according to Yahoo Finance. The Taiwan market will then be closed on October 9 for a substitute holiday connected with National Day, as reported by Commercial Times.
