Taiwan Weighted (TAIEX) closes 0.03 percent lower near 50,000 points

The index moved between 49,567.52 and 49,966.89, according to Focus Taiwan.
Rotation away from large-cap technology
Dealers cited caution ahead of Taiwan's National Day holiday and profit-taking near the round-number level. MediaTek fell 1.73 percent, ASE Technology Holding lost 1.61 percent, Hon Hai Precision Industry declined 1.56 percent and Delta Electronics dropped 2.93 percent. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. ended unchanged.
Buying rotated into selected old-economy and financial shares. Formosa Plastics gained 10 percent, Nan Ya Plastics rose 7.17 percent and Formosa Chemicals and Fibre advanced 3.84 percent. The financial sector outperformed technology, rising 1.02 percent. Hua Nan Financial Holdings added 3.19 percent and KGI Financial Holding gained 2.26 percent, while foreign institutional investors sold a net TWD 13.04 billion on the main board, Focus Taiwan reported.
Holiday schedule
The Taiwan Stock Exchange will be closed on Friday, October 9, because October 10 National Day falls on a Saturday and the substitute holiday is observed on Friday, according to CTEE. Trading resumes after the holiday and weekend.
The index enters the break below 50,000 points after a session of sector rotation and reduced exposure to large-cap technology stocks near the psychological threshold.
