- UNUS SED LEO traded at 9.45 USD on October 29, 2026, according to CoinGecko.
- Bitfinex has pledged at least 80 percent of remaining net proceeds from recovered hack-related funds for LEO buybacks and burns.
- The amount available for that one-off burn cannot yet be calculated because deductions and the start of the 18-month period remain unclear.
The UNUS SED LEO price stood at 9.45 USD on October 29, 2026, according to CoinGecko. The data provider reported a 1.10 percent 24-hour increase, a 4.60 percent seven-day increase, a market capitalization of 8.694 billion USD and 141,974 USD in 24-hour trading volume. The circulating supply was 919.858 million LEO.
Recovered Bitcoin is a future catalyst
The main recent development is connected to the 2016 Bitfinex hack. A US government wallet transferred approximately 264.863 Bitcoin to Coinbase on October 6, 2026. CryptoTicker reported that Bitfinex intends to use at least 80 percent of the remaining net proceeds to buy back and destroy LEO.
That commitment does not translate into an immediately calculable burn. As CryptoTicker explained, Recovery Right Tokens and legal or other costs must be accounted for before the remaining net proceeds are determined. Bitfinex has not published the relevant deduction or confirmed when the 18-month period for the pledged deployment begins.
The recurring burn mechanism
Alongside the one-off recovery-related commitment, iFinex has pledged to use at least 27 percent of its consolidated gross monthly revenue to buy LEO and burn the tokens. The mechanism is designed to reduce supply over time, but its effect depends on the revenue base, the execution of purchases and the amount of LEO ultimately destroyed.
The current supply figure provides context but does not by itself identify the number of tokens burned. CoinGecko also reported an all-time high of 10.61 USD, leaving the token below that level on October 29. The Investing.com page showed a separate real-time quote, but market-data sources can differ by venue and timing.
What investors should monitor
For investors, the key variables are not only the UNUS SED LEO price, but also the disclosure of the net amount eligible for the recovery-related buyback, the start date of the 18-month period and subsequent burn reports. The reported 24-hour volume also indicates that liquidity should be considered when assessing position size and exit conditions. The burn pledges may support the token's supply reduction, but they do not establish a guaranteed price outcome.
