- Orlen was the weakest WIG20 component, while investors also monitored US market conditions and an upcoming S&P review of Poland's rating outlook.
The WIG20 ended the Warsaw Stock Exchange session on Friday, November 6, at 4,131.37 points, down 1.85 percent from Thursday's close of 4,209.15 points. The closing level and daily change were reported by Strefa Inwestorow.
Warsaw follows weaker global sentiment
Friday's decline reversed the benchmark's 0.46 percent advance on Thursday. The move came after a sharp sell-off in US equities on the previous session, which increased pressure on European markets and reduced appetite for riskier assets. At 17:00 local time, the WIG20 was down about 1.8 percent at 4,133.41 points, according to XYZ. The final close was slightly below that late-session level.
Orlen weighs on the large-cap index
Orlen was the weakest WIG20 constituent during Friday's session, falling 7.04 percent in the account cited by XYZ. The company's latest quarterly results were also in focus. An analyst quoted by the publication said the reaction was not explained solely by results that were weaker than expected and pointed instead to oil prices, profit-taking and selling pressure in liquid shares as possible additional factors.
Other parts of the market were more mixed. XYZ reported gains for Modivo, CD Projekt and Alior Bank during the session, while Dino, Budimex and KGHM were among the decliners. These individual moves did not prevent the blue-chip index from finishing the week lower.
Investors assess next market signals
Market participants were also looking ahead to the scheduled S&P review of Poland's rating after the session, according to XYZ. The publication said investors were weighing the possibility of a change in the outlook, while an analyst described any deterioration as potentially temporary for Polish equities. The same report noted that investors were watching for stabilization in US markets, the planned Anthropic listing and Nvidia's upcoming results.
For the week, WIG20 fell 1.2 percent, according to WNP. Despite the weekly decline, the index remained close to its recent record of 4,291 points set on October 29. Further direction will depend on global technology-sector sentiment, commodity prices and company-specific results. Weitere Berichte zum WIG20 finden Sie in unserer Themenübersicht.
