Manufacturing investment in Indiana
On September 24, Amazon announced plans to invest more than USD 100 million in a new advanced manufacturing facility in Greenwood, Indiana. The company said the approximately 585,000-square-foot site is expected to launch by 2028 and create 300 manufacturing and engineering jobs. Amazon’s US Press Center said the facility will produce products for the company’s fulfillment and robotics network across North America.
The company said the new roles will include CNC operators, welders, technicians, assemblers, engineers and quality-assurance specialists. Amazon stated that the positions will pay an average of nearly USD 100,000 per year. The release identified the investment as part of Amazon’s expansion of domestic manufacturing capacity.
Higher operations pay announced
In a separate September 16 announcement, Amazon said minimum starting pay for U.S. full-time core operations roles will increase to USD 20 per hour, with average hourly pay reaching nearly USD 24. The company said the pay changes represent an investment of more than USD 1.5 billion in higher pay for U.S. core operations employees. Amazon’s announcement also described new banking access and grocery discounts for U.S. employees.
