Embedded commercial payments launched
BMO and Mastercard announced on October 1 that eligible BMO Corporate Card clients in Canada and the United States can initiate and manage BMO Commercial virtual-card payments directly within participating enterprise software platforms. The capability integrates payments into enterprise resource planning, procurement, accounts-payable and travel-management systems.
The release said BMO became the first Mastercard issuer in Canada to offer an integrated embedded-finance and payment experience through participating platform integrations. Clients can use the virtual cards for supplier invoices, travel and corporate expenses within their existing operational workflows.

In a September 29 release, BMO said it had joined Project Agorá, a collaboration convened by the Bank for International Settlements and the Institute of International Finance to explore tokenization and programmability in wholesale cross-border payments. The project includes eight central banks and more than 40 regulated financial institutions.
