Strategy targets higher profitability
In a September 30, 2026 press release, BMW Group said it aims to return the Automotive Segment’s EBIT margin to a range of 8 to 10 percent by the start of the next decade. As an interim target for 2028, it expects an EBIT margin of 3 to 5 percent and plans to reduce divisions and associated management roles by 20 percent by the middle of 2027.
The company also outlined plans for an additional Sports Activity Vehicle above the BMW X7 for the US market and another fully electric Neue Klasse model for Europe in 2028. BMW said it is expanding the use of artificial intelligence across development, purchasing, production, sales and aftersales, while increasing localization of models developed for Chinese customers.
Battery production starts in Bavaria
BMW Group officially opened its Irlbach-Straßkirchen plant in Bavaria on October 1, 2026, marking the start of series production, according to a BMW Group release. The site supplies sixth-generation high-voltage batteries to BMW Group Plant Munich for installation in the BMW i3. BMW said the plant represents an investment of around EUR 1.00 billion and is operating on a two-shift basis as series production begins.
