Digital-payments expansion
On September 28, Citigroup Inc. announced an expanded collaboration with Coinbase to connect digital and fiat payments for corporations and consumers. The company said Coinbase selected Citi Services’ Virtual Account Wallet to power Coinbase Virtual Accounts, with incoming fiat automatically converted into stablecoins. Citi also said Spring by Citi will enable institutional clients to accept stablecoin payments at checkout, with Coinbase Payments powering the acceptance and Citi settling funds as the bank of record. The initiatives are launching first in the United States, according to the Citigroup release.
Token Services reaches seven markets
Citigroup Inc. also announced that Citi Token Services had expanded into Japan and the United Arab Emirates. The company said clients in those markets would be able to transfer funds to and from accounts, and that the service’s footprint had grown to seven markets: the United States, Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Japan and the UAE.
