Debrecen plant begins trial production
Contemporary Amperex Technology said on September 22 that CATL had begun trial production at its newly built battery-cell factory in Debrecen, Hungary. The company said the trial phase is intended to set up, optimize and validate production equipment and manufacturing processes before series production.
PR Newswire reported that operations began on the first two production lines after the company obtained an occupancy permit in August and completed the relevant conditions under its integrated pollution prevention and control permit.
According to the company, CATL has produced 537,000 battery modules at the Debrecen site since autumn 2024. Once all facilities are ready, the Hungarian plant is planned to have 100 GWh of capacity and become CATL’s largest manufacturing base outside China.
