Pilot plant advances elastomer recycling
On September 16, Covestro said it had opened a pilot plant for the chemical recycling of high-performance elastomers at its Leverkusen site. The company described the project as a double-digit million-euro investment that moves a recycling process for Vulkollan from laboratory development into pilot operation. Covestro said more than 90 percent of selected end-of-life Vulkollan material can be recycled, with a carbon-footprint reduction of up to two thirds compared with virgin material. Covestro said the pilot plant will support testing of waste streams, process refinement and data generation for potential industrial scale-up.
