EUR 1 billion energy-island facility
In a September 7, 2026 release, the European Investment Bank said Elia Transmission Belgium had secured a EUR 1 billion credit facility for the second phase of the Princess Elisabeth artificial energy island in the North Sea. The facility will cover equipment including a high-voltage substation, transformers and alternating-current connections to the mainland. The project is intended to support offshore wind capacity in Belgium and a possible future electricity interconnector with the United Kingdom.
