New procedure codes for two systems
Medtronic plc said on October 1, 2026, that the American Medical Association approved new Category I Current Procedural Terminology codes for its Altaviva implantable tibial neuromodulation device and Symplicity Spyral renal denervation system. The codes will replace existing Category III codes and take effect in January 2028, according to the Medtronic release.
Medtronic said the Altaviva system is used for urge urinary incontinence, while Symplicity Spyral is used in renal denervation procedures for uncontrolled hypertension. The company added that a Category I code can support physician payment and inform commercial payer coverage decisions, but does not determine coverage, reimbursement, clinical superiority or patient access, the release said.
