Debt issuance adds financing capacity
Mercado Libre, Inc. announced through Business Wire the issuance of USD 1.00 billion of senior unsecured notes due in 2036. The securities carry a 5.850 percent coupon and have a 10-year tenor. The company said it will use the proceeds for general corporate purposes and to strengthen liquidity.
The release identified the notes as SEC-registered senior unsecured securities. Mercado Libre said the transaction attracted more than 100 institutional investors. The companyâs chief financial officer, MartĂn de los Santos, said the notes were priced at the same spread as the companyâs previous seven-year issuance despite the longer tenor.
Brazil delivery and pharmacy expansion
On September 24, MercadoLibre launched one-hour product deliveries in Brazil, initially in SĂŁo Paulo, according to Reuters. The service is expected to include medications, food and other products.
Reuters also reported that MercadoLibre plans to add third-party pharmacies to its Brazilian e-commerce platform in October, beginning in SĂŁo Paulo with three drugstore chains. The company expects to have 20 third-party physical drugstore locations on the platform in SĂŁo Paulo by the end of 2026. MercadoLibreâs own SĂŁo Paulo pharmacy began selling prescription products in September.
