Novo adds oral GLP-1/GIP candidate
On September 29, Novo Nordisk announced that it had entered into a license agreement with Hengrui Pharma for HRS-1596, a phase 1-ready GLP-1/GIP dual receptor agonist with potential for once-weekly oral dosing. Under the agreement, Novo will receive exclusive rights to develop, manufacture and commercialize HRS-1596 globally, excluding mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. GlobeNewswire reported the company announcement.
The potential total value is up to USD 2.6 billion, including a USD 300 million upfront payment and milestone-contingent payments. Hengrui Pharma is also eligible for royalties based on net sales in the licensed territory. The agreement remains subject to U.S. Hart-Scott-Rodino antitrust clearance and other customary closing conditions, with closing expected in the fourth quarter of 2026. The release said Hengrui has approval in China to initiate phase 1 clinical trials for weight management and type 2 diabetes.
