Solar project in New Mexico
Orsted announced on September 30, 2026, that construction had started on Blackwater Solar, a 200 MW solar farm in Roosevelt County, New Mexico. The company said the project is its first in the state and is expected to reach commercial operations in late 2027. The announcement was issued through PR Newswire.
According to the release, Blackwater Solar is backed by a long-term power purchase agreement and is expected to generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of more than 56,000 homes annually within the Southwest Power Pool territory. Orsted also said it would contribute $100,000 to Playa Lakes Joint Venture for wetland restoration near the project site.
