Satellite launched for air-defense surveillance
In a press release dated October 2, 2026, Rheinmetall said its subsidiary Rheinmetall Italia S.p.A. and Italian space company Argotec had successfully launched their first jointly developed satellite on October 1 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The program is intended to develop satellite-based airspace surveillance and situational-awareness capabilities, with data integrated into existing defense and air-defense systems. Rheinmetall said a subsequent satellite launch is planned for 2028.
New Norwegian site opened
In a separate October 1, 2026, release, Rheinmetall reported that its subsidiary Rheinmetall Nordic AS had opened a new site in Skoppum, Norway. The facility covers 4,579 square meters, is designed for 127 employees and had 100 employees at opening. Rheinmetall Nordic also signed a 15-year lease for the site. Rheinmetall said the expansion will support development, production, system integration, logistics and customer support in Norway.
