Bell Bay Aluminium secured through 2031
Rio Tinto said on October 1, 2026, that it had reached an agreement with the Tasmanian and Australian governments to secure the ongoing operation of Bell Bay Aluminium in northern Tasmania through the end of 2031. Under the arrangements, Hydro Tasmania will continue supplying electricity to the smelter through December 31, 2031, while the governments will provide additional support. Rio Tinto said Bell Bay produces about 190,000 tonnes of aluminum annually and supports about 550 full-time employees.
Argyle Pink Diamonds brand transition
Rio Tinto also announced on October 1, 2026, that ownership of the Argyle Pink Diamonds brand had transitioned to Boodles. The agreement included the remaining Argyle pink diamond inventory, related trademarks, website and digital marketing assets. The transition was completed on October 1, 2026. Rio Tinto said production at the Argyle mine ended on November 3, 2020.
