Investment in propulsion specialist
In a September 22, 2026 release, Safran said that its corporate venture capital subsidiary, Safran Corporate Ventures, acquired a minority stake in Akira as part of the French propulsion specialist’s latest funding round. Safran said the investment is intended to support Akira’s growth and strengthen their industrial partnership.
Safran identified Akira’s work in propulsion-system design, prototyping and testing, including collaboration with Safran Aircraft Engines, Safran Helicopter Engines and Safran Tech on the RISE demonstrator and research projects involving hybridization and hydrogen combustion. The funding is also intended to expand Akira’s production and testing capabilities, support EN 9100 certification and develop drone-propulsion and defense microturbine activities, according to the release.
Share buyback program
Separately, a September 18, 2026 regulated release published by Safran said the company had entered into an agreement for a share buyback tranche. Safran may repurchase its own shares for a maximum amount of EUR 375.00 million from September 21, 2026, through November 27, 2026, at the latest.
The transaction is part of Safran’s EUR 5.00 billion share buyback program for cancellation planned for 2025 through 2028. The release said EUR 2.275 billion had already been executed at that date, subject to annual general meeting approvals.
