In a letter dated October 5, Walmart Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs Dan Bartlett asked an advocacy group to correct what the company described as mischaracterizations of its pricing practices and technology. Walmart said it does not and will not use an individual customer’s personal information, income, shopping history, urgency or willingness to pay to set an individualized price. It also said it does not engage in dynamic pricing.
Walmart said digital shelf labels replace paper tags and display approved price changes more efficiently. According to the company, the labels do not identify customers or independently set prices, and Walmart does not and will not use them for individual or dynamic pricing. Walmart also said its Shop to Light feature uses shelf-label LEDs to help customers locate items, while Stock to Light and Pick to Light support store operations.
