- Al Ahly Capital is buying 40.00 percent of CIRA's Damietta university venture on October 7, 2026.
- CIRA reported 84,000 students for 2026/27, up from 73,400 in 2025/26.
- The Damietta university is due to open in September 2027, while a first project phase is planned for 2027/28.
Al Ahly Capital is buying El Sewedy Capital's 40.00 percent stake, or 30 million shares, in CIRA's Damietta university venture, as EnterpriseAM reported on October 7, 2026. CIRA, identified by ISIN EGS65541C012, will retain a 60.00 percent stake in the venture.
Three expansion milestones shape CIRA
EnterpriseAM reported on September 24, 2026, that CIRA's enrollment reached 84,000 students for the 2026/27 academic year, compared with 73,400 in 2025/26. On October 5, 2026, the same publication described CIRA's pipeline as including EGP 2.0 billion of investments over two years and more than 46,000 admission applications.
The October 7, 2026 transaction adds a governance and ownership change to that expansion story. CIRA's 60.00 percent holding remains intact, while Al Ahly Capital takes the outgoing partner's position in the university venture, according to Billionaires Africa.
What does the stake change mean?
The deal leaves the education operator exposed to the university's future capital needs and operating performance, while preserving majority ownership. The venture secured a 58-feddan plot in New Damietta, and CIRA chief executive Mohamed El Kalla said in August that the university is due to open in September 2027, according to EnterpriseAM.
Two education dates ahead
The Damietta university's planned opening is September 2027. CIRA's wider pipeline also includes the first phase of its international science and technology center in the 2027/28 academic year, as EnterpriseAM reported on October 5, 2026.
Enrollment sets the operating test
The 84,000-student total exceeded CIRA's 80,000 target for 2026/27 and moved the group closer to its 100,000-student objective for 2030, according to EnterpriseAM. For the stock story, the key test is whether new campuses and higher enrollment translate into sustainable revenue while construction spending continues.
