Salmon Business reported on Monday, October 26, 2026, that Camanchaca expanded its Tomé processing plant in Chile's Biobío region with a fifth production line and a new freezing tunnel. The project increased staffing at the facility by 407 people as the company prepared for peak seasonal demand.

New capacity targets export markets

Staff at the Tomé plant rose from 754 in June to 1,161 in October, an increase of 54%, according to figures cited by Salmon Business. The additional line is designed to produce a wider range of products, including salmon fillets and portions, for international customers.

Camanchaca processing manager Jorge Vergara said the new line would help the company meet customer requirements and export specifications. More than half of the seasonal recruits had previously worked for the company, the report said.

International footprint remains central

Camanchaca reported approximately 24,000 tonnes of cumulative salmon production through September. North America represented 52% of the company's Atlantic and coho salmon sales, while products processed at Tomé were distributed to 39 countries across four continents.

Around 60% of total production was exported through ports in the Biobío region. The report said more than 11,500 tonnes of frozen salmon had been shipped through San Vicente, Coronel and Lirquén, while fresh salmon exports were mainly transported by air.
