Profit pressure meets strong revenue

  • The industrial business recorded another quarter of double-digit volume growth.

Castrol India reported a sharp sequential decline in third-quarter profitability on Saturday, October 24, as rising raw material costs and unfavorable currency movements weighed on margins. CNBC TV18 reported that net profit fell 49.3 percent from the previous quarter to INR 176.4 crore, while revenue declined 7.3 percent sequentially to INR 1,734.7 crore.

Costs test recent operating gains

EBITDA dropped 47 percent from the second quarter to INR 262.3 crore, reducing the EBITDA margin to 15.1 percent from 26.4 percent. Management said pricing actions taken earlier in the year helped cushion the effect of cost inflation and currency pressure.

Over the first nine months of 2026, EBITDA grew 11 percent, according to the company commentary cited by CNBC TV18. Chief Financial Officer Mrinalini Srinivasan warned that the operating environment was likely to remain volatile and inflationary, leaving pricing and cost control central to the near-term earnings outlook.

Distribution remains a growth lever

Managing Director Saugata Basuray said the industrial business delivered another quarter of double-digit volume growth. Castrol India also expanded its distribution footprint to approximately 167,000 outlets, including 46,000 rural outlets.

The company said its Auto Care portfolio was available through around 50,000 physical outlets, while its service ecosystem included more than 870 Castrol Auto Service centres, 37,000 independent bike workshops and 16,000 multi-brand workshops. Rural Service Express covered more than 1,000 locations.
