Community Trust Bancorp reported mixed third-quarter results on October 21, with year-over-year earnings growth tempered by higher credit costs. In its official earnings release, the bank said third-quarter net income reached USD 25.9 million, or USD 1.43 per diluted share, compared with USD 29.6 million and USD 1.64 per share in the second quarter. A year earlier, net income was USD 23.9 million and diluted EPS was USD 1.32.
Income growth meets higher losses
Net interest income rose to USD 61.1 million, up 9.9 percent from the year-earlier quarter and 0.3 percent from the second quarter. Noninterest income increased 16.9 percent year over year to USD 18.6 million, while noninterest expense declined 0.7 percent to USD 36.5 million.
The main pressure came from credit costs. The provision for credit losses rose to USD 9.2 million from USD 3.9 million a year earlier and USD 2.8 million in the second quarter. Net loan charge-offs reached USD 6.6 million, compared with USD 2.7 million in the third quarter of 2025. The company attributed a USD 4.3 million charge-off to a commercial relationship whose collateral sold for less than expected.
Loans and deposits continue growing
Total loans reached USD 5.3 billion at September 30, up 10.6 percent from a year earlier. Deposits and repurchase agreements totaled USD 6.0 billion, an increase of 6.5 percent year over year. Nonperforming loans declined to USD 22.5 million during the quarter, although past-due loans and charge-offs remain important indicators for investors assessing asset quality.
