- Claro NXT completed the acquisition of a controlling stake in Brazilian broadband provider Desktop.
- The transaction is followed by plans for a unified tender offer and changes to Desktop's issuer registration.
- The ownership change gives Claro a larger fixed broadband platform in Brazil.
Claro NXT, a subsidiary of América Móvil, completed the acquisition of a controlling stake in Desktop on October 1, 2026. In its Form 6-K, América Móvil said its Brazilian subsidiary acquired 72.83% of Desktop's capital stock.
Control Change Reshapes Listing
The deal transfers control of the Brazilian telecommunications provider to Claro NXT. Telecompaper reported that Claro NXT intends to submit a request to Brazil's securities regulator for a unified tender offer for the remaining shares.
The proposed process is also intended to facilitate a change in Desktop's issuer registration from Category A to Category B. For minority shareholders, the next key developments are the tender-offer terms and the regulatory process that follows the change of control.
Desktop's Broadband Business
Desktop is a Brazilian telecommunications provider focused on internet and connectivity services. Its operations are now being integrated into Claro NXT's fixed broadband platform, giving América Móvil a larger regional infrastructure and customer base in Brazil. The ownership change places Desktop within the expansion of Claro's fixed-network business rather than leaving it as an independent listed operator.
Brazil's broader equity market can be followed through the Bovespa index.
For investors, the tender offer and any subsequent changes to Desktop's listing status are more immediate issues than operating results. The final terms and regulatory filings will determine the options available to remaining shareholders.
