Fincantieri and Leonardo signed a letter of intent on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, during the Euronaval exhibition in Paris to strengthen Orizzonte Sistemi Navali, their naval-defense joint venture. The agreement focuses on the venture's industrial and commercial role, technology capabilities and expansion across domestic and international markets, according to Leonardo.
Joint venture targets broader markets
Fincantieri owns 51 percent of Orizzonte Sistemi Navali, while Leonardo holds the remaining 49 percent. The companies said the partnership is intended to strengthen OSN's position in integrating naval platforms and combat systems as defense programs become more technologically complex.
OSN is involved in Italy's next-generation DDX destroyers, FREMM EVO frigates, legacy FREMM programs and logistics support for naval units. The venture also serves as prime contractor for the development of Italian naval capabilities, giving the agreement a direct link to current defense programs rather than only to future research.
Results provide the next test
Fincantieri's board is scheduled to approve interim financial information for the period ended September 30, 2026, on Thursday, November 12. Investors will look for evidence that naval-defense activity is supporting the group's broader operating performance when the company reports.
Shipbuilder with global reach
Fincantieri designs and builds technologically complex ships and operates 18 shipyards across three continents. Its activities span shipbuilding, offshore and specialized vessels, underwater businesses, and equipment, systems and infrastructure; the company is based in Italy with registered offices in Rome and Trieste. The group describes itself as one of the world's leading shipbuilding companies, with a long history in high-complexity vessels.
