- CGSI sees limited near-term catalysts for Singapore tourism and keeps a Hold recommendation.
- Asset refresh works and weaker VIP demand add pressure to Genting Singapore's non-gaming business.
- Valuation appears attractive, but visibility on earnings growth remains limited.
CGS International has lowered its target price for Genting Singapore after a weaker tourism backdrop reduced visibility on the operator's earnings recovery. In a report dated Thursday, October 22, and covered by The Business Times on Friday, October 23, CGSI cut its target from S$0.67 to S$0.63 while retaining its Hold call.
CGSI cited persistent haze, adverse weather and a lack of near-term tourism catalysts. The broker expects these conditions to keep visitor numbers subdued through the fourth quarter, weighing on Genting Singapore's non-gaming revenue. Singapore international visitor arrivals fell year on year in the third quarter, according to figures cited by The Business Times.
Pressure Extends Beyond Tourism
The analyst also expects softer gaming activity to affect the Resorts World Sentosa operator. Peer commentary pointed to weaker VIP volumes, while China-related pressure on high-end patrons could weigh on Singapore's gaming market. Genting Singapore is also managing operational disruption from asset refresh works across parts of its properties, including Hotel Michael and Crockfords Towers.
CGSI forecasts adjusted third-quarter EBITDA of about S$180 million, down 19.2 percent year on year and 14.6 percent quarter on quarter. The estimate reflects weaker gaming and non-gaming revenue rather than a change to the broker's recommendation. Potential support could come from stronger gaming performance and improved margins through cost controls, while continued visitor declines, higher costs and operational friction remain downside risks.
Genting Singapore's Business
Genting Singapore operates Resorts World Sentosa, an integrated resort in Singapore that combines gaming, hospitality, dining, entertainment and other destination services. The company describes itself as a tourism and integrated-resort developer focused on Singapore and Asia, with the RWS 2.0 expansion as a major growth project. Its main Singapore resort competitor is Las Vegas Sands' Marina Bay Sands, leaving Genting Singapore as the operator of the country's other major integrated resort destination.
