Hanwha Life Insurance (KR7088350004) approved a KRW 440 billion acquisition of Acuon Capital on September 30, 2026, with a planned 50.54 percent stake. As Asia Business Daily reported, the transaction is a joint investment with Centroid Investment Partners and also brings Acuon Savings Bank into the group.

What the KRW 6.5 trillion means

The acquisition would extend Hanwha Life beyond insurance into specialty lending finance. Acuon Capital had total assets of KRW 4.6 trillion in the first half of 2026, while Acuon Savings Bank had KRW 5.1 trillion, according to Asia Business Daily.

Hanwha Life plans to combine Acuon Savings Bank with its existing Hanwha Savings Bank. The resulting savings bank group is targeted at KRW 6.5 trillion in total assets and a fourth-place industry position, creating a broader retail and corporate finance platform.

Capital strength remains central

The group is also expanding its securities business. Hanwha Life and Hanwha Asset Management each approved a KRW 250 billion contribution to an affiliate rights offering, with the stated aim of supporting designation as a comprehensive financial investment business.

The strategy follows strong first-half operating indicators. According to Quartr, Hanwha Life's new business CSM reached KRW 1.3 trillion in the first half of 2026, up 40.5 percent year over year. Consolidated net income rose 96 percent year over year to KRW 904.5 billion in the same period. The comparison matters because the acquisition adds balance-sheet scale while the core insurance business is reporting higher profitability.

Hanwha Life stays below its yearly high

Hanwha Life closed at KRW 5,330.00 on the Korea Exchange on September 30, 2026, down 8.58 percent from the prior close of KRW 5,830.00. The same session's 52-week range was KRW 2,930.00 to KRW 7,560.00, leaving the stock below its yearly high while the acquisition plan moves toward regulatory approval and completion procedures.
