Hua Nan Financial is part of a planned combination of four Taiwan securities investment-trust businesses approved by their parent companies on October 22, 2026. Focus Taiwan reported that First Financial Holding, Mega Holdings, Taiwan Cooperative Financial Holding and Hua Nan Financial agreed to combine their investment-trust subsidiaries.

First Securities To Survive

First Securities Investment Trust is intended to remain the surviving company because First Financial would become the majority shareholder. The transaction would be carried out through a share swap involving the issuance of 59,286,927 common shares, according to the report.

Hua Nan Financial would hold 9.5 percent of the combined company, while First Financial would hold 50.3 percent, Mega Holdings 30.4 percent and Taiwan Cooperative 9.8 percent. The proposed ownership structure gives Hua Nan exposure to the expected scale benefits while leaving strategic control with First Financial.

Regulatory Steps Remain

The merger still requires approval from Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission and the Fair Trade Commission. The companies said an application was expected to be submitted first to the FSC's Banking Bureau, followed by reviews by the securities and futures regulator and the competition authority.

The planned completion date is January 1, 2028. Until approvals and execution, the announcement represents a proposed restructuring rather than a completed transaction.

Scale Is Central To The Plan

The combined group would oversee about NT$500 billion in assets under management, including discretionary investment management, and would rank 12th in Taiwan's domestic market on that basis, Focus Taiwan reported. Management said the larger platform aims to reach the domestic top 10 or even top eight, making scale, product breadth and distribution efficiency central to the rationale for the merger.
